چکیده

Phthorimaea operculella is one of the most important pests causing damage to stored potatoes. In this work, effect temperature (at 10, 20 and 30 °C) on predation pest eggs by Blattisocius tarsalis was studied in laboratory. addition, three predatory release rates two densities under microcosm conditions. The results showed that B. maintains its capacity at low temperatures (10 °C), obtaining an efficiency 49.66 ± 5.06% compared control. turn, °C, a maximum efficacy 78.17 4.77% achieved, very similar presented °C (75.57 4.34%). Under conditions density eggs/container), mortality due mite 96.97 3.03%, 81.82 8.84%, 84.85 8.30%, respectively, for (5, 10 or mites/container). At high infestation level, control ranged from 61.54 9.21% 92.31 2.74%, depending rate. obtained show could be relevant agent against P. non-refrigerated potato storage conditions, as well first stages their refrigerated

Disruption of Phthorimaea operculella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) oviposition by the application of host plant volatiles

BACKGROUND Phthorimaea operculella is a key pest of potato. The authors characterised the P. operculella olfactory system, selected the most bioactive host plant volatiles and evaluated their potential application in pest management. The electrophysiological responses of olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) housed in long sensilla trichodea of P. operculella to plant volatiles and the two main sex...

Adult carbohydrate feeding affects reproduction of Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae).

Reproduction of most insects depend on nutrients accumulated during the larval stage, but many lepidopteran species will also depend on nutrients obtained at the adult stage. Feeding at the adult stage allows the intake of carbohydrate and amino acid rich solutions, which may have an effect on the species reproduction and population growth. The objectives of the current study were to characteri...

A new species of Blattisocius (Acari: Mesostigmata: Blattisociidae), with a new characterisation of the genus.

A new species of Blattisocius Keegan, Blattisocius thaicocofloris n. sp., is described from Thailand from adult females and males, raising to 18 the number of species known in this genus. This is the first species of this genus described from flowers (of Cocos nucifera L.; Arecaceae), although two species, Blattisocius apis Basha & Yousef and Blattisocius apisassociae Chinniah & Mohanasundaram,...

Population biology of the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), in two potato cropping systems in Israel.

The life cycle, within-field distribution, crop damage and impact of natural enemies of the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) were investigated in two potato cropping systems. The two systems differed in soil type (sandy vs. loess) which in turn affected the choice of cultivars, irrigation programme, insecticide application method (ground vs. aerial), and planting and harvest ...
